“We tend to dress up our ideas about the future as speculations, predictions, projections, or manifestos, but in truth they’re all just stories. They’re little snatches of life which we show to one another in the hope that we’ll get nods of agreement or approval. Unfortunately - whether we tell these stories using words, numbers or pictures - none of us is very good at it, and we don’t seem particularly interested in improving.”
